The UN has elected Iran to a seat on its women’s rights commission. I guess they felt that con was underrepresented.
Incidentally, the election was carried out by acclamation. The United States could have blocked it, or at least forced a vote, but chose not to.
UPDATE: Officials say there was no mechanism by which this could have been blocked. Everything is settled in UN back-room deals.
