Department of Peace

A bunch of people think that we ought to have a US Department of Peace. No joke.

First thought: I guess no one reads George Orwell any more. Or watches Babylon 5 for that matter.

Second thought: Suppose we did create a government agency dedicated to Goodism. How long would it be before it was perverted from mere foolishness into some ACORN-like enterprise? I’ll bet it would happen on day one.

BONUS SNARK: This apparently is the brainchild of Dennis Kucinich, so I’m sure it would take a firm stand against chemtrails and space-based mind-control weapons.

George Orwell was an excellent science fiction writer who scared the wits out of people with his prophesies for our entertainment. There is always a chance of mismanagement in any department and a chance for “mere foolishness”. I agree. There is also a chance of discovering a way to turn our population around from its ever increasing violence.

I do sympathize with your concern over our society’s lack of respect for human life. We have a serious problem. But even if we set aside the question of whether it’s the government’s job to fix our society, I think that a new government agency would be much less likely to change society for the better than to find new ways to oppress us.
